INTRODUCTION of LCCI

HISTORICAL OVERVIEW

Lesotho Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), established in 1976 as a national and broadly based business association-open to all business activities, is the oldest non-profit aligned and independent constitution; its members come from all political backgrounds and affiliations, etc.

Since its establishment, LCCI has evolved from a purely representative and consultative body to a dynamic actor in socio-economic development of the country. Throughout its years of existence, it has constantly striven to carry out its fundamental mission of defending and promoting the vital interests of its members.

The LCCI mandate addresses all economic, social and political issues affecting the business community in one way or another. The chamber is the ‘voice of business’ and it ensures that this voice is heard where it matters to protect the interests of business.

OBJECTIVES

  • To support the transformation and growth of the Lesotho’s economy
  • To advocate, inform, participate and engage with policy and decision makers for reforms and promotion of a conducive business climate in Lesotho
  • To collaborate with public sectors in formulating and implementing policies that support job creation and employment of more Basotho
  • To promote economic growth of the entire business community regardless of race, sex, creed, religion and/or privilege
  • To promote fair and competitive business practices
  • To make LCCI more relevant for its members and focus on delivering needs-directed chamber services to our members
  • To serve our members with new innovative approaches
  • To share knowledge, experience and resources to establish a network of national, regional and international contacts
  • To promote SMME, and NEW entrepreneurs’ growth and development through various initiatives and programmes
  • To become a strategic vehicle for the participation of member businesses in social responsibility programmes
